Managing Director of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi has made an appeal to the people connected with the cooperative sector in general and those related to IFFCO in particular to conserve water. Chiming with the Prime Minister’s mann ki baat on water-conservation, Awasthi argued in a forceful manner that human life would be unable to sustain without water.
He tweeted his sentiment “#Water: Most precious in our lives. We need it wherever we are. I Urge everyone at #IFFCO & #Cooperatives to #Save Water. Use it judiciously.
Experts feel that MD’s appeal assumes importance as it goes out to a large number of farmers and cooperators connected with the fertilizer cooperative. They feel corporate honchos should take a cue from Awasthi and promote water conservation in their organizations.
Recent media reports about water being hauled to Latur through trains has driven home the message that water is to be conserved at all costs, water experts say.
At a time when 40% of India is reeling under a serious shortage of water, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorting people to start a mass campaign to conserve water merits attention. The prime minister added a prediction that monsoon would be good in future has brought us a message of joy and peace.
With large swathes of the country reeling under severe heat and drought conditions, the PM said a collective effort is required to conserve water in every village which in turn will recharge the ground water and wells.
“Today there is water crisis and drought in the country but we have about one-and-a-half months to plan for the good monsoon ahead. We can start a campaign now to conserve water in every village,” he said.
