Social media like Twitter and Face book are important communication tools but only a few cooperative leaders are aware of its awesome impact. Narendra Modi’s success at electoral battle was partly credited to his relentless campaigning in the social media.
It was Iffco PR Head Harshendra Verdhan who tweeted about a fortnight ago “our beloved MD of #IFFCO, Dr U S Awasthi is now on twitter @drusawasthi”. And soon began a scramble for becoming his followers.
Dr Awasthi’s first tweet was “# my first tweet goes with a good news #Jordan# India# Fertilizer company (JIFCO) has started production of phosphoric acid”.
In a rather opaque society like ours authorities tend to be remote and inaccessible. Co-operative is a peoples’ movement and the two-way communication, so crucial for the success of any organization, is made possible by the use of social media.
This fact is made evident by one of the tweets of Dr Awasthi @drusawasthi “#twitter would certainly make us (#IFFCO) communicate directly with #world in one go”.
The result was soon evident forcing Dr Awasthi to tweet again “Reached maiden century. Thx followers. Wish to connect with our members. Big thx PR team encouraging me joining twitter young team VG”.
Some other cooperative leaders are also showing inclination for use of twitter. Jyotinder Mehta, the Chairman of GUJFED, Gujarat Chapter of Nafcub is one among them.
Times are changing fast and to keep pace is a challenge. Those who are not adopting latest technologies would be edged out and the sooner it is understood the better.
