Addressing a mammoth gathering of farmers and cooperators in the tough terrain of Leh and Ladakh, IFFCO Managing Director Dr US Awasthi stressed on the need of turning the area into a hub of organic farming.
Promising to use every resource at IFFCO”s command Awasthi said ”we should take recourse to traditional method and desist from over-using chemical fertilizer. The occasion was “Farmers Connect Campaign” launched by MD in the beginning of the Golden Jubilee Year.
Mentioning the event Awasthi tweeted “Addressed #farmers & cooperators in #Leh. #IFFCO is proud to serve at 12000 feet. Soul of every farmer. Support of farmers.”
Hundreds of farmers-cooperators as well as senior officials had come to the venue of the meeting to greet IFFCO
Speaking on the occasion Awasthi exhorted the audience to be part of IFFCO and join its latest venture Indian Cooperative Digital Platform. “#IFFCO believes in serving & benefiting farmers. Connecting Bharat with #India.No boundation of language or culture. All on digital platform”, he tweeted.
He also made a pitch for a greater participation of youth and women in the cooperative movement. Several women cooperators had attended his meeting at Leh, he says in his tweet” Glad to see active participation of women in Leh. IFFCO always promotes women cooperatives.”
Several leaders of the area also spoke on the occasion welcoming the MD and urging him to help the area grow in the field of agriculture.
Leh was the 84th destination of IFFCO’s MD. And it was special because it coincided with his birthday. In areas around his village in Unnao district- Havana and community feasts were organized to mark the day.
Leh trip was special also because his granddaughter not only accompanied him but revealed her profound concern for farmers before a proud granddad. A touched Awasthi tweeted “I feel proud as my granddaughter #Shivani shared her thoughts for farmers & going across India with me. Her heart beats for #farmers.”
