Dr. U S Awasthi (@ drusawasthi) tweeted on Friday:” #welcome monsoon#.” One of the challenges facing the new govt was the bleak financial scenario compounded by the lack of enough rain as predicted by the Met department. But Sunday the estimate of monsoon deficit was revised from a whopping 41 per cent to a measly 15 percent bringing cheers all around.
In the next tweet Dr. U S Awasthi (@ drusawasthi) tweeted : #farmers pl remember #monsoon is back . Our difficult days are over. Pl now use balance fertiliser and less and less of urea.
It was natural for the cooperative giant Iffco to feel relieved as it is closely tied with the ups and downs of farm and farming composed of about 40 thousand cooperative societies as its members. A cautious MD however, alerted its members to guard against the excessive use of chemical fertilizer.
In order to reach out to farmers he switched to Hindi and tweeted (@ drusawasthi): kisan bhaiyon aur bahano# barshata aa gayi hai, khushi manoa par urea kam dalana aur gobar ki khad tatha phosphetic aur potash ki khad jaroor dalana, phasal achchi hogi”.
(Rejoice friends , monsoon is here but be careful in using urea, use bio-fertilzers, potash and phosphetic fertilizers, crop would surely grow well.)
In his earlier interviews given to Indian Cooperative Dr Awasthi has put emphasis on reducing farmers’ dependence on chemical fertilizers. The Iffco has launched a campaign “Save our soil” explaining ways of conserving the fertility of land.
