G N Saxena, Director of cooperative relation at IFFCO earned another distinction recently when he joined the board of Global Development Cooperative. GDC as it is called is a ICA created fund aimed at helping cooperatives in South Africa.
Mr Paul Flowers is the Chairman of Global Development Cooperative while Dame Pauline, ICA President David Grady, Hazel Gray, Dr Gopal Saxena and Pierre Valentin are the Board members.
The GDC’s primary aim is to make a practical contribution over the next 7 years to addressing the “missing middle” funding gap experienced by developing world agricultural cooperative( particularly in Africa) by facilitating the provision of fair-priced, medium-term loan finance and complementary technical assistance coupled with focus on encouraging other actors to use their resources for the same cause.
GDC is basically about lending soft loans to the cooperatives, informed Dr Saxena to Indian Cooperative. We are studying a few proposal and would take a call in due course, he added. But he was quick to ascribe his accession to ICA crated Board of GDC as recognition of IFFCO which has made its mark globally.
In the Board of GDC in London last week a few proposals were moved. “We are studying a few proposal and would take a call in due course”, Dr Saxena added.
