IFFCO headquarters at Saket in N Delhi known popularly as IFFCO Sadan has dolled up for the big day of the Board members’ election today. Notice board is plastered with instructions to the delegates who are coming from various parts of the country to participate in what is known as dance of democracy.
IFFCO has worked out a fool proof system to maintain the high ethics of free and fair elections. Voters’ list which IFFCO Co-operative Director Dr G N Saxena showed to this correspondent contained not only names but photographs of the delegates too thereby minimizing any chance of fake identification.
The general assembly would be convened at 9 am and the voting would start from 9.30 am. By 1 pm noon the returning officer is expected to announce the results. The elected Directors would then assemble to decide on the names of Chairman and Vice-chairman. By 2.30 it is expected that the final results would be out.
As reported earlier, Nakia continues to be the front-runner. The name of N P Patel is doing rounds for the vice-chairman though there are 3-4 contestants in the race. IFFCO source said that the aim is to have Chairman from the elected body and the vice-chairman from the Federations.
IFFCO has travelled extra-mile to ensure participation of delegates in the election. One of the delegates from Darbhanga in Bihar said that since 30th April was election date here IFFCO has given me air-fare enabling me to participate in both the elections—Parliamentary as well as cooperative.
The election in the gargantuan IFFCO has now got restricted to three seats: constituency no.1,2 and 3 and it is expected that voting to these seats may offer some fireworks. Three outgoing Directors who would have to win the majority votes to retain their seats are Prem Chandra Munshi, A Parveen Reddy and Tryambakrao G Sirsath.
