Taking time off from his tight schedule, IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi found time to participate in the ICA board meeting at Sophia –the capital of Bulgaria on Wednesday. He also discussed the cooperative movement with ICA President Mrs Monique Leroux and others.
In his speech Awasthi talked about Indian cooperative movement and also mentioned the role being played by IFFCO in the country. The global participants heard him patiently. Later ICA President Mrs Leroux retweeted several of his tweets.
Founded in 1895 to unite, represent and serve co-operatives ICA represents 284 co-operatives in 95 countries. It represents the co-operative movement worldwide and is headquartered in Belgium.
Soon after his address IFFCO MD tweeted “Today I addressed the global board members of @icacoop about Indian #Coop Movement especially #IFFCO success story in board meet at #Sofia.”
On his arrival Awasthi was received by head of Central Cooperative Union of Bulgaria with a bouquet of flowers. CCU
Making the most of his visit Awasthi met cooperative leaders coming from different parts of the world. He also visited Cooperative Museum in Sophia as expressed by his tweet “Visited Central Cooperative Union’s #Cooperative Museum in #Sofia. Expressed my greetings & appreciation of their work for #cooperatives.
Awasthi’s emphasis on local culture got reflected in enjoying Bulgarian dance presented during the dinner. He also found time to interact with global women cooperators separately. His tweet on the issue read “I also met leading Women #Cooperative Leaders in #Sofia, #Bulgaria. #IFFCO always supports #women empowerment & gender equality in #Coops.”
IFFCO is a member on the ICA Board and its representative Aditya Yadav could also be seen in numerous photographs posted by IFFCO MD on social media from Sophia.
Tarun Bhargava who is tasked with developing cooperative relations at IFFCO also accompanied them. Bhargava’s FB post on the visit read” Indian Representation in ICA Global in Sofia, Bulgaria. Participated in key discussions with SuperCooperator Dr U S Awasthi and Mr Aditya Yadav.”
