Paris based International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) Chairman Rakesh Kapur said fertilizer plays an important role in feeding people over the globe and thus warding off a worldwide humanitarian crisis. He was speaking on the occasion of Global Fertilizer Day.
On the occasion, international agricultural professionals were gathered to celebrate the key role that fertilizer plays in meeting the growing global demand for nutritious food grown in a sustainable way.
IFA Chairman Rakesh Kapur who is also the Joint Managing Director of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) tweeted “Global Fertilizer Day. Fertilizers play important role in feeding globe ending hunger, environment friendly sustainable way”.
Meanwhile, IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi also tweeted on the occasion and said “Let’s pledge today on
Fertilizer is a subject close to cooperatives as more than 40 per cent of fertilizer in the country is being produced by them. IFFCO alone produces more than 20 per cent of country’s needs. It has also contributed global leaders to international platform- Kapur is heading the IFA now as its MD Dr U S Awasthi did so in past.
Of let IFFCO, which produces 84 lakh tonnes of fertiliser every year has shown inclination towards planned increase in the production of organic fertilizer in an effort to save crops and earth from diseases.
“Excessive use of chemicals, pesticides and urea is diminishing the fertility of soil. There is a need to move cautiously towards adopting organic fertilizer; I am for balanced use of chemical and organic”, says its MD Dr U S Awasthi.
