IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi once again stressed the role of cooperatives in reaching out to the last mile. Be it any sector-seed, fertilizer or consumer goods or be it any country USA, Africa or India, the job has been done well if the cooperatives are involved, reiterated Dr Awasthi.
Setting an example of encouraging small co-op federations at local level, Awasthi landed in Dehradun Wednesday morning to attend the 14th Annual General Body Meeting of Farmers Agri Business Cooperative Society FABCO, which is chaired by Pramod Kumar Singh.
Co-operators from various parts of the state had come to participate in the AGM and listen to Czar of cooperatives Dr U S Awasthi. In his short but meaningful address Awasthi said no matter how small is a co-op society but if it has the determination to succeed, nothing can stop it.
Using the occasion to talk about global warming, IFFCO MD said the future belongs to the Nano range of fertilizers which would cut nitrogen emission-the villain of the piece behind the environmental degradation as established by several researches.
Awasthi exhorted FABCO members to come forward and help in spreading words about the Nano range. “You have to talk to farmers and convince them about its efficacy”, he stated.
“We also look forward to getting feedback from you as to how best to advertise this”, said Awasthi who, earlier told this correspondent that successful launch and adoption of Nano range by the farmers of the country is going to be a finale to his professional career.
The field reports coming about Nano are encouraging as an average increase of 7-8% in the yield has been reported from various parts of the country. Even the quality of produce is better in the sense that about 50% more protein has been noticed in the Nano led production, said Awasthi.
Concluding his address with the remark that handholding of each other among the cooperatives is the call of the time, IFFCO MD promised to lend all help possible to smaller co-operative cousins. He lauded Pramod Singh, FABCO Chairman for his proactive approach and appreciated the young MD of FABCO for his management.
‘It is indeed heartening to see such top cooperative figures such as Dr Awasthi to come down all the way to encourage a small co-op body. We need more such examples to be set by co-op biggies”, said Pramod on the MD’s visit.
