The 41st Meeting of the General Body of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) was held on Friday at the NCUI Auditorium in N Delhi. Thousands of delegates from across the country came to participate in the AGM.
The AGM was called to effect certain changes in the bye-laws to make it attuned with the 97th Constitutional amendment. The formal notice about the changes along with the detailed programme was sent earlier to the delegates and it took no time in passing the resolution.
Initiating the proceeding the Managing Director U S Awasthi placed the matter before the delegates who passed the resolution in no time.
Earlier, on Thursday IFFCO held its board meeting in which the candidature for the upcoming ICA Board election in November was debated. NP Patel, the Chiarman of IFFCO and a hard-core cooperator from Gujarat was unanimously chosen to contest for the ICA Board membership.
Readers could recall that IFFCO represented India in the earlier board through its late Chairman Surender Jhakhar. His untimely demise led to interim election in which Japanese cooperator was declared winner.
Talking to Indian Cooperative N P Patel said that strategies for the elections are yet to be worked out. Patel said that he would consult domestic cooperators before launching a global campaign. He especially mentioned NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh with whom he plans to raise the issue.
Indian Cooperative has learnt that Chandra Pal Singh is also open to the idea of contesting ICA election. A mutual understanding between Patel and Singh would brighten Indian chances, said a source.
