The summit is likely to bring together experts, researchers, and decision makers from the cooperative world and civil society to debate the role of cooperative institutions in ensuring global food security.
High profile people drawn from cooperatives across the world would take part in the summit. Close to 200 leading experts from 42 countries will be on hand to share their knowledge and enrich dialogue on the cooperative and mutual model.
Awasthi is credited with igniting the biggest farmers’ cooperative movement in India with IFFCO encapsulating more than 40 thousand societies under its wings. He is regarded as the prime mover behind the mega cooperative show. It is on this account that the International Summit of Cooperative has decided to invite him as one of the panelists. He is the lone name from India.
Cooperatives are key actors in food security, with almost 40 per cent of cooperatives worldwide working in the agricultural or agri-food industry and more than 50 per cent of the planet’s inhabitants depending on cooperatives for their livelihood. The summit will address pressing food security issues, including boosting productivity, strengthening competitive advantages, securing the supply chain, and reducing speculation.
