On the occasion of World Environment Day, there were celebrations across the country with people taking a pledge to keep India cleaner and greener. Cooperative institutions and cooperators also joined in the celebrations resolving to plant trees and make India a plastic free country.
IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi greeted the nation on the Day through social media and wrote, “Greetings of #WorldEnvironmentDay. Let’s come together & pledge for a cleaner & greener planet, a better place to live for future generations. With #BeatPlasticPollution as a theme, let’s put our all efforts to stop using the #plastic at our homes & work places. Use biodegradable”.
On its Facebook wall the largest UCB in India, Saraswat Cooperative Bank wrote, “This Environment Day, let us do our bit to nurture, safeguard and preserve Mother Earth for generations to come”.
Indian cooperative has also received scores of mails related to the World Environment Day from cooperative institutions with photographs from across the country.
The Sahakar Bharati Unit of Uttarakhand planted trees and medicinal plants in Vikasnagar city. One of the
participants from Sahakar Bharati said ”we have planted trees for the benefit of local people and urged people not to use polyethylene to keep environment clean.
While planting the tress in the premises of Kisan Sahakari Sugar Mill in Amroha, UP district president of Kisan Sangh said tree is our life. With more and more trees planted, nature remains balanced.
Kerala based Kadannamanna Service Cooperative Bank President Adv. Asgarali and Block President Saheeda Elikkottil planted trees on World Environment Day.
Punjab State Cooperative Bank says, “On World Environment Day, let us all come together and follow simple steps towards saving the Mother Earth: saving water, decreasing pollution, and increasing clean air”.
First held in 1974, World Environment Day has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues. It encompasses issues like marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. Over 143 countries participated in the celebrations.
