Amul is a cooperative brand the sight of which inevitably gladdens the heart of every cooperator worth his salt. This happened last week when Sahakar Bharati Chief Jyotindra Mehta could not help being wowed when he saw Amul perched atop a hill in Meghalay.
Writing on his FB wall last week Mehta said “One of the highest mountains in shillong. Meghalaya. We found AMUL ice cream. Proudly Co operative.”
Mehta who is also a government nominee at the apex cooperative body NCUI was on a tour to the north eastern states including Assam and Meghalaya. He also met Himanta Biswa Sharma, the newly elected minister of finance, Tourism and Co- operation of Assam.
Mehta had a long discussion with the Cooperation Minister on issues relating to cooperative. In particular he wanted to stress the importance of growth of Assam through co operatives and wanted to know how Sahakar Bharati could contribute in raising GDP of the state through the cooperative sector. .
Making the best use of his stay he also visited Nalabari co operative Bank and Nagrik Samvay Bank in Guwahati and
“Sahakar Bharati Assam Sangathan Pramukh Shankar Chakrobarty. Sushant Sarkar and Surendra Kalita also joined me”, Mehta posted his status update on FB wall.
The newly elected cooperation minister Dr. Himanta ji Biswa Sharma has also worked as chairman of the apex Co operative Bank of Assam, writes Mehta.
