UP State Co-op Bank employs street plays to spread financial literacy

In a bid to create awareness among the people especially those living in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, the UP State Cooperative Bank has made an elaborate plan to organize 912 financial literacy camps and 1824 Street Plays (Nukkad Natak) till the end of the current financial year in different parts of the state.

The program was kicked off recently in the presence of its Chairman Tejveer Singh, Managing Director Varun Mishra, several board members, among others. The Lucknow headquarters of the state apex co-op bank wore quite a site on the occasion.

These programs are being organized partly with the financial help of Nabard. According to the information given by the bank’s MD, Nabard has given over Rs 2.44 crore for organizing these programs, and Rs 29 lakh will be borne by the bank.

“On an average, for Nukkad Natak- Rs 15k per program and for financial literacy camp-Rs 5k per program has been sanctioned. I hope that it will not only create awareness about banking but also help the villagers to save themselves from online fraud”, said Mishra to this correspondent at the bank’s headquarters in Lucknow.

He added that it will be a unique program. We will also inform villagers and others about the existing policy of the bank and how to make the payment while using the mobile app. Our representatives will teach them everything and also encourage them to open accounts with our bank.

Meanwhile, the bank is also in the process of opening 13 branches in different areas of the state. “We have shortlisted the areas where we will open our branches. The work of opening new branches has almost been completed and I hope that branches will become operational by the end of the month”, he said.

“At present, there are 27 branches but after the opening of these branches, the number will increase to 40″, he informed.
