The general body meeting of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd (TRIFED) was held last week in Kokrajhar of Assam during which the 11th board of directors was reconstituted and the office cum processing society ltd was formed.
Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd (TRIFED) is a national Cooperative under Ministry of Tribal Affairs with a basic mandate of bringing about socio-economic development of the tribal population of the country.
The new board of directors committed to take forward the vision of TRIFED of overall development for tribal people of India through sustainable and comprehensive marketing support of their products and achieving convergence and coherence with other development partners working in this field to enhance their income and improve the quality of their life.
They also pledged to continue to promote sustainable livelihood system for tribal people by marketing development and ensuing remunerative price for their products, provide minimum support price and value addition of timber forest produce (minor forest produce), empower them through meticulous capacity building and augment their resources substantially.
Social activist and columnist Pratibha Brahma was elected as the vice chairman of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED).
She is the first lady to hold the position. Pratibha Brahma while assuring to work wholeheartedly said, “I will try my level best to work for the people of the Northeast as tribals from Assam and especially women have rich traditional skill which needs upgradation and exposure to cater to the national and international market.”
