Singh joins ICA Legal Committee; IFFCO officers recount his expertise

In a significant development, R P Singh, Director (HR & Legal) at IFFCO, has been elected as a member of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Cooperative Law Committee (CLC) for a tenure extending until 2028.

This announcement, a testament to Singh’s expertise, was made public by IFFCO’s Managing Director, Dr. U S Awasthi, through his official social media channel last week.

The ICA-CLC, established by the General Assembly of the International Cooperative Alliance, serves the vital function of providing independent legal advice to the ICA on matters pertaining to cooperative law.

Comprising legal luminaries from various jurisdictions renowned for their knowledge of cooperative principles, the committee’s members are nominated and appointed by the ICA regions and board.

R P Singh, a man known for his mild manner and friendly disposition, is one of the most popular functional Directors of the cooperative behemoth IFFCO. People working under him swear by him and say that he is a boss who supports them in all situations of crises, be it personal or professional.

No wonder, Singh is also one of the favorites of IFFCO MD Dr. U S Awasthi, who trusts him implicitly. “Singh has stood by MD Saheb in all crises,” said a senior official on condition of anonymity.

Old employees of IFFCO also recount R P Singh’s role in making IFFCO “wholly owned by coops & farmers” with the return of the govt share. Pride of farmers and that of co-operators, IFFCO today boasts a work culture visible in successful corporates.

Over the last 54 years, IFFCO has evolved into an ecosystem comprising products, services, and support systems that ensure fairness, transparency, and sustainable practices. And this has not been possible without people at the helm who bother for the organization.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative on the issue of Singh’s elevation at the global level, All India IFFCO Officers’ Federation, Chairman Jitendra Tiwari first congratulated him and then thanked him for ushering in a culture of free exchange of ideas and views among employees.

“Singh Saheb is one such Director whose Chamber is always open for us employees, and he is always there as a guide and elder brother to show us the roadmap”, said Tiwari.

Even this correspondent has found Singh busy tackling this legal issue or that in his chamber whenever he visited him. If IFFCO has many friends, large co-op organization like it has no dearth of enemies as well. With his eagle eyes, Singh is always alert to thwart any legal hurdle to the growth of the co-op titan.

Indian Cooperative joins others in extending its good wishes to R P Singh on his joining the Legal Committee of the international co-op body ICA.
