A cooperative of about 5000 farmers, the Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (SIMFED) launched its products in NCR, attracting wide media attention. Launching organic products of SIMFED, Agricultural Secretary S K Pattanayak said that being a fully organic state Sikkim should show the way to other states.
SIMFED is marketing vast range of organic products through 23 retail shops in the Delhi-NCR areas at present. On Wednesday the event saw the launch of 35 certified organic food products including unpolished rice and pulses.
Earlier, fertilizer giant IFFCO entered the world of organic fertilizer in a big way by resolving to form a new joint venture with the Government of Sikkim. The venture known as Sikkim IFFCO Organics Ltd (SIFFCO) aims to promote the organic fertilizer of Sikkim state worldwide via IFFCO’s new digital cooperative platform.
IFFCO MD Dr US Awasthi believed that being a fully organic state Sikkim can lead the way to organic fertilizers and plant growth promotion worldwide.
Eager to cash in on the opportunity IFFCO also opened cooperative membership for Sikkim in which women are being given preference. A detailed research of traditional Sikkim agriculture style has also been undertaken by IFFCO.
