Surat People’s Cooperative Bank’s former Chairman Mukesh Dalal was an early winner who won unopposed on a BJP ticket after the nomination papers of his main rival, the Congress-backed candidate, were rejected. The remaining candidates bowed out of the race.

Candidates from a cooperative background who lost the election included Godavari Urban Multistate Credit Cooperative Society Chairperson Rajashri Hemant Patil, Gujarat Kheti Bank’s Director Vijay Thummar’s daughter Jenny Thummar, Banas Bank’s Hitesh Chaudhari’s wife Rekhaben Chaudhari, and Karnataka cooperator Annasaheb Jolle.

Taking a dig at the opposition, he said, “I would like to ask the Congress party and the opposition leaders who do not believe in democracy, do you have any doubts about EVMs now? Please clarify!”
