The auditor general of Maharashtra has indicted the office of the commissioner of cooperatives for allowing several crore of rupees released under the central govt scheme for farmers to lie in various banks even after the withdrawal of the scheme.
Word is that the information has been obtained through the RTI Act.
Loans given by cooperative societies covering multiple activities including dairy development were covered under the scheme.
The AG report charges the commission of cooperatives did not recall the money from the banks with interest in case of questionable release of grants.
The central govt. scheme had ended in 2010. The total amount involved was Rs. 39.44 crore.
