Air-dashing from Ahmadabad to Delhi on Tuesday, Nafed Vice-Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani headed straight to 7 Race Course Road where Prime Minister Modi was waiting for him. Sanghani –an old colleague and a trusted friend had come all the way to say thanks to Modi for helping Nafed earn profit.
Nafed has earned profit after a long time and there is a noticeable euphoria among the cooperators connected with the beleaguered agri cooperative which used to be pride of the sector not long ago. The tie-up losses and subsequent developments robbed it off all sheen in the course of time.
The erstwhile leaders of Nafed are however a smart lot and they made Sanghani the Vice Chairman of Nafed to get govt sympathy. They were right as Modi govt not only allowed it to procure food grains but is also working out on a revival financial package. From procurement alone it has earned a profit of Rs 125 crore this fiscal.
Downplaying his meeting with the PM Sanghani said” it is my habit to inform PM’s office whenever I come to Delhi and he calls me as and when he is free. This time he called me as soon as I landed in Delhi”, he added.
But what assured me most was PM’s vision of creating employment in rural India through cooperatives. Modi talked about farmers’ welfare and said cooperative has a major role in uplifting their lot, Sanghani quoted PM Narendra Modi as saying.
It bears recall that last week in Gujarat Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only praised cooperatives’ contribution in the development of Gujarat but also their ability to blend their activities with the govt schemes and efforts.
The Prime Minister also urged cooperatives to join their hands with the government to implement various development schemes.
