In a major move NCUI President Dileep Sanghani who doubles as the Chairman of Amreli District Cooperative Bank announced New Year (Makar Sankranti) gift to the farmers of the district of Amreli in Gujarat.
The Board of DCCB, called Amreli Jilla Madhyastha Sahakari Bank, which sat on the auspicious day of New Year, passed a resolution to insure 4 lakh members associated with the bank under the PM Bima Yojana.
Talking to Indian Cooperative on the phone from Amreli, a jubilant Sanghani said “Amreli Jilla Madhyastha Sahakari Bank becomes the first DCCB in the country to insure so many members under the Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana.”
We plan to roll out the plan next month. Besides farmers, we have included small traders also in the scheme, said Sanghani. The plan would begin once we are ready with the list of names to be given to the insurance agencies, Sanghani added.
Talking about the load the DCCB will have to bear on this count, Sanghani said that the premium for each member to be insured is Rs 12 and so the total cost to the bank will be 4 lac x Rs 12, which comes around Rs 48 lakh.
More than the money, what we are aiming at is the habit-formation of seeking insurance among the farmers. The Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana is so cost-effective and yet so helpful in times of crisis that we need every farmer to avail it, stressed Sanghani who till recently headed the apex national body of co-op banks NAFSCOB in the country.
Later Sanghani took to social media and tweeted in Hindi “On January 14, 2019, In the board meeting of Amreli District Madhyastha Sahakari Bank, it was decided to do the insurance of 4 lakh members associated with the bank under the PM Bima Yojana. It was decided to provide security.”
Giving details of the Amreli Jilla Madhyastha Sahakari Bank, Sanghani said that the DCCB has about 71 branches and it has registered its presence in the remotest parts of the district.
Equipped with core banking facilities and having its own IFSC Code, the DCCB can carry out the most complicated banking business, Sanghani claimed. The bank was a leading bank to provide Kisan Credit Cards to the farmers. This bank was also leading to provide coverage of Accident Insurance to its loanee customers. The bank’s audit class is “A” and distributes dividends to the members every year.
