Sahakar Bharati Ganga gram project is winning international recognition with the UN recognising Ganga rejuvenation program as one of the 10 ground-breaking initiatives from around the globe for their role in restoring the natural ecosystem, reports RSS mouthpiece the Organizer.
Readers would recall that an MoU was signed between NMCG and Sahakar Bharati in August this year in the presence of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to achieve the vision of a sustainable and viable economic development by public participation, creation and strengthening of local cooperatives towards realizing the mandate of Arth Ganga, that aims to link people with the river through a “bridge of economics”.
Reacting to the news of UN recognition, Sahakar Bharati President D N Thankur said “We intend to take this approach to every village in the states through which the Ganga flows. To begin with, we have shortlisted 75 villages in five States for the purpose of Conserving, preserving and enriching natural resources through a cooperative system.”
Thakur further added that it is based on the 4 G matrix which includes Ganga sanrakshan, Gau samvardhan, Gram Samridhi evam atma Nirbharta and Garib sashaktikaran. “Ganga Sahakar Gram- Approach is a natural principle-based management of village economy”, he added.
Sahakar Bharati is holding meetings and workshops to sensitize its Karyakartas on the challenge. Two days’ Sensitization workshop of Sahakar Bharti karyakartas of five states were held in Varanasi and a State level meeting was held in Haridwar. District level meetings are also being held with two having been held in Bulandshahr and Meerut recently.
Giving details of future training, Thakur added that there is a meeting and training of District coordinators and sub coordinators of all the districts of Uttarakhand on 26th and 27th December, a programme in Bijnor on 4th January 2023 and programmes are also lined up for Bhagalpur and Sahebgunj in 2nd week of January 2023.
“The recognition of ‘Namami Gange’ as one of the top-10 ecosystem restoration initiatives in the world bears testimony to the concerted efforts being made by the government’s National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) for the restoration of the riverine ecosystem. I hope that our endeavours provide a roadmap for other similar interventions across the globe,” said G Asok Kumar DG of NMCG.
Sahakar Bharati has since been actively holding events as a part of the targeted campaign under the Namami Ganga Programme and Arth Ganga to promote Natural Farming amongst the farmers in the Ganga Basin.
While one was sited in Delhi, the second one took place in Haryana recently. On the birth anniversary of Gandhi Jayanti, an event was organized at the Sur Yamuna Ghat, Wazirabad, Delhi, which saw a participation of around 100 workers associated with Sahakar Bharati.
The second program was conducted in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in which more than 200 farmers took part. It was organized at Bayanpur village, Sonipat, Haryana.
