Leaders deliberated at length on how to strengthen the villages of India through the cooperative model. The meeting also stressed on the need to form a separate body for conducting co-ops elections in a transparent manner. Other issues pertained to attracting youth and women to the co-operative fold.
Besides Sahakar Bharati’s newly elected President D N Thakur, National General Secretary Uday Joshi, Jyotindra Mehta, Delhi Chapter President Avdesh Tyagi, SRCC Professor Dr. Mallika Kumar, Nacof Chairman Ram Iqbal Singh, Keshav Sahakari Bank Vice-Chairman Jaiprakash Gulati and others graced the occasion. The hall was packed with co-operators who came from different parts of the country to attend the event.
In his remarks, NCUI President Dileepbhai Sanghani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a separate ministry for co-ops and making a budgetary provision for the same.
Lauding the efforts of Sahakar Bharati, Sanghani said, “In India, there is no other organization which is wholly working for empowering the cooperative sector. The organization has a strong contribution and a network at the grassroots level. In one of the functions, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah also praised their efforts. The workers associated with the organization are playing a key role”, the NCUI President underlined.
Addressing the participants, Sahakar Bharati President D N Thakur said, “The Central Government has given a special focus in the Union Budget and allocated Rs 900 crore, which is the first-ever in the history of the cooperative movement. We have to launch a campaign together to take the cooperative movement to Villages”.
Sahakar Bharati National General Secretary Uday Joshi added that there is an urgent need to make the new cooperative policy. A separate body should be made to conduct the co-op elections with full transparency. The registration process of co-ops should be made easy.
On the occasion, while proposing a vote of thanks, Mehta informed the participants that the cooperative movement contributes 24 percent to the GDP of the country and the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of achieving the $ 5 trillion economy will be possible through co-ops.
