Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat launched Tuesday an ambitious programme aimed at women empowerment under the nomenclature of Digital Literacy Mission for the women of the state. Besides the chairman of the Gujarat Urban Cooperative Bank Federation Jyotindra Mehta, a host of union Ministers were present on the occasion.
Mehta announced to provide 3 lakh selected models of Samsung Tablets in the hands of women through cooperative entities of Gujarat available through loans with low rate of interest. He emphasized the jugalbandi (moving in tandem)of Sahkar (Co-ops) and Sarkar (govt), i.e. Cooperatives and the Government will lead the state to a top position in digital literacy.
Rupani announced the Govt’s determination to provide 1 lakh tablets at concessional rates through Govt machinery. Considering this the state of Gujarat will ensure for itself the top spot in the country in the area of Digital literacy.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Railways, lauded the role of Gujarat Federation and praised the role of GUCBF and cooperative Banks to come forward for making women self dependent.
Purushottambhai Rupala, MOS, Deptt of Agriculture, Govt of India made an impressive speech praising the role of GUCBF to make women of state digitally literate. He stressed that the tablet in the hands of women will change their destiny. That will provide them with independence.
Anjaliben Rupani, wife of the CM was present as the Guest of Honour. She along with her husband, distributed the tablets to the beneficiary ladies under the scheme.
Ishwarsinh Patel, Minister of Cooperation, Gujarat was also present as a Guest along with the special dignitaries.
A jam packed audience of 2000 plus cooperators from all over Gujarat were present on the occasion.
Ken Kong and Sukesh from Samsung were also present on the occasion.
Cooperators appreciated Mehta’s approach of using his personal relationship with CM for furthering the growth of cooperatives in the state.
