The Rajasthan Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje has decided to bring an ordinance to amend the Rajasthan cooperative society rules in order to ensure all cooperative bodies in the state could go to polls simultaneously, reports a news outlet.
Rajasthan Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore said the cabinet decision would bring uniformity in the elections of all the 33 thousand cooperative bodies functioning in the state. The govt. would bring cooperative societies under the control of administrators after the completion of tenure till elections are held, the minister said.
Sources keeping tabs on the cooperative sector in the state are sanguine about a speedy democratization of cooperatives as a result of the ordinance to be brought by the govt soon.
Recently the state cooperative sector was shaken when the Chief Minister ousted the strong man Bhairon Singh Shekhawat from the top cooperative post. Incidentally both Shekhawat and Raje owe allegiance to BJP but a clash of ego is said to have resulted into his humiliating exit. Shekhawat is on the board of Kribhico.
