In a video conference held on Monday, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi strongly advised against the concurrent utilization of both Nano and traditional urea. Addressing beneficiaries of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, he emphasized that the simultaneous use of these fertilizers could render the Earth unable to regenerate itself, underscoring the need for cautious and sustainable agricultural practices. Participants included thousands of beneficiaries from across the country, along with Union Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and local-level representatives.
Addressing the issue of natural farming, the Prime Minister advised farmers to control fertilizer use, particularly cautioning against combining Nano urea with conventional urea. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to raise awareness and conduct soil testing for rationalizing fertilizer use, along with providing soil health cards to farmers.
The Prime Minister made a specific request to farmers, stating, “I request the farmers of the country not to use both urea and Nano urea. Use Nano wherever available.”
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive development, he assured that the schemes aligned with the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ reach every individual. Additionally, he mentioned the ongoing efforts to strengthen Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACs) and the plan to establish 2 lakh storage units.
Saeed Khwaja Muihuddinn, a member of a 102-year-old cooperative group from Nandyala, Andhra Pradesh, informed the Prime Minister about the positive impact of the government’s initiatives.
He highlighted that NABARD extended a three-crore rupee loan under the Agri infrastructure scheme, enabling the construction of five godowns. This initiative facilitated electronic negotiable warehouse receipts for farmers, allowing them to access low-interest loans and connect with e-mandis and eNam through a multipurpose facilitation center.
While expressing admiration for the local farmers’ enduring spirit, the Prime Minister learned that awareness about the Agri Infrastructure Fund reached them through cooperative banks and the registrar. Storage facilities empowered small farmers to secure the best prices for their produce.
An entrepreneur shared how the government’s initiatives over the past decade transformed his work, running a Kisan Samriddhi Kendra and providing facilities like Kisan Credit Cards and value additions through FPOs.
In response to the Prime Minister’s appeal, the Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani and Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi of IFFCO also tweeted on the issue. MD said on ‘X’, “Hearing the appeal of the country’s popular Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi in his address to use Nano Urea in the Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra, I request everyone to implement it in practice.” The IFFCO Chairman’s tweet is given below.
