Responding to media reports on Campco delegation’s impending visit to China, the former Chairman and leader of the delegation Mr Konkodi Padmanabha said an effort to export tender arcanut to China is indeed being made.
“Last year a group of businessmen had come to Campco looking for tender arcanut which is used in manufacturing mouth fresheners. An agreement was signed and we sent a batch of our produce to China”, Padmanabha said talking to Indian Cooperative on the phone.
Chinese delegation had toured arecanut-growing regions in Shivamogga and Tumakuru districts of Karnataka. Apart from selecting tender arecanuts, the Chinese experts also promised to train the people to process the tender arecanut to meet their own requirements.
Padmanabha said Campco exported around 10 tonnes of processed tender arecanut to China on a trial basis and now the cooperative plans a large-scale export to China, he said.
Padmanabha who is an avowed supporter of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said the visit to China would lend strength to PM’s Make in India concept.
Padmanabha who has been fighting on behalf of arcanut farmers is also in the important Education Fund Committee of apex cooperative body NCUI.
