The latest is from Gaya where a maha-dalit was killed when he nursed the ambition of fighting PACS election. The upper caste men not only stopped him but when he did not listen he was killed leading massive exodus of fear-stricken community from the area.
Wakil Manjhi , the man who was killed belonged to Bihar chief minister Jeetam Ram Manjhi’s caste but that brings no solace to hundreds of Mahadalits who fled their village in Gaya district and taken shelter in a government office after threats from upper caste men for protesting the killing of one of them.
Manjhi’s killing angered his castemen, who demanded action against the accused.
“After they protested, some powerful people threatened them to eliminate them like Manjhi. Fearing attacks on them, they were forced to flee the village,” said a police official.
The SP and DM of Gaya district are camping in the village even as mahadalits have threatened to stage protests in Gaya town if the accused were not arrested soon.
The cooperative election is mired into controversies with news of wrong-doings coming from different parts of the state.
