Public Accounts Committee of Odisha State Assembly has flown in a fury over the dishonest and illegal activities of several multi-state cooperative societies operating from the state.
The committee has demanded full details on the cooperative organisations indulging in dubious activities from the competent cooperative authorities within 30 days.
According to President of the PAC, there are about a score of erring multi-state cooperative societies in Odisha plundering people with impunity. The cooperative dept of the state govt has been handling its affairs in a lackadaisical manner, the PAC head regretted.
The PAC has done an enquiry into the chit fund scam and asked for a detailed report on 1,634 self help cooperative societies functioning in the state from the cooperative dept.
Sources say many important leaders of the ruling party in Odisha are believed to be involved in various cooperative scandals.
