BJD government bid to control the cooperative bodies of state has been dashed by the High Court in Orissa.
Navin Patnail’s government first received a legal jolt in the case of take-over of State Cooperative bank and Cuttack Urban Cooperative bank. Now its effort to control more than 100 cooperative bodies through nominated council remains unfulfilled because of court’s intervention.
BJD government did practically everything including an amendment in the cooperative act to help its hand chosen nominated council occupy the seat of cooperatives. But the cooperative bodies approached Court and got relief. Nominated Council which was about to take over have been stopped from doing so.
But High Court has also asked the existing elected board not to take any major decision. They have been also instructed not to induct any new director till the cases are disposed off by the court.
This is a clear victory of cooperative movement.
