NCUI’s Cell motivates Uttarakhand villagers with business ideas

Making a decisive intervention to uplift the life of the villagers of Uttarakhand, NCUI’s recently launched arm, Cooperative Entrepreneurship Development Cell (CEDC) tied up with Himalayan Volunteer Tourism and tried to goad and encourage the participants to see the business potential in their immediate neighbourhood.

The Cooperative Entrepreneurship Development Cell (CEDC) organized an online meeting, in collaboration with Himalayan Volunteer Tourism (HVT) with the elected representatives of village panchayats, SHGs & NGOs of 10 villages in Uttarakhand recently. Mahima Mehra, Coordinator, HVT, introduced the members & set the agenda of the meeting.

The members from these villages shared various initiatives undertaken for generating better income to support the livelihoods of people, such as homestays, herbal soap making, stitching etc.

They requested support from NCUI for enhancing visibility & opening new business avenues ensuring development of their region.

Chakrabhushan Pandey from Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) team talked about the programs run by UBA for community development & women empowerment like lemongrass & mushroom cultivation, organic farming etc.

Sumit Singh, Advisor (Strategy & Cooperation), NCUI, explained the benefits of cooperatives & the last 2 years’ initiatives undertaken by NCUI. He also shared the success stories of coop societies in different states & motivated the participants to use the Internet & other innovative technologies for enhancing business growth.

Singh requested the pradhans of the participating villages to facilitate better coordination between the respective village panchayats & cooperative society/ies in the village in the interest of the community at large.

It was decided that HVT will compile supporting documents & forward them to CEDC (NCUI) for inputs before submitting to the concerned authority for registration.

Tanya Gupta, Project Assistant, CEDC, NCUI, elaborated on the objectives & achievements of NCUI Incubation Centre for women empowerment, & showed eco-friendly products prepared by women trainees at the Centre.
