The fourth meeting of the National Level Committee for drafting the new cooperative policy document was held on Monday under the Chairmanship of former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The meeting was basically organized for the conveners of the eight-sub committees formed from the National Cooperative Policy panel. During the meeting, the conveners submitted their recommendations on respective themes to Prabhu.
The deliberations included strengthening sectoral cooperatives right from primary to national levels, strategic partnership between cooperatives, private and public sector entities, need for simplification of registration procedures, equity support, allowing cooperatives to access resources from open market at par with companies.
It further included encouraging participation of youth and women to the cooperative fold, setting up an Infrastructure Development Fund, Promotion of Cooperative Trade, Preferential treatment to cooperatives, Role of government of a facilitator not controller or regulator, tax exemption to those cooperatives that are working exceptionally well for social security.
The participants also touched on several other issues including, climate changes, exploring starts up under cooperatives, Partnership between cooperatives and starts up, branding of cooperatives, technology adoption, creating technology platforms which can be shared/used by all cooperatives, development of cooperative culture, cooperatives aligning with national priorities from time to time and others.
Soon after the meeting, talking to the Indian Cooperative, one of the participants said, “The meeting was very fruitful and several presentations were given by the conveners of sub committees. They also submitted their recommendations, which will be studied before compilations of the NCP document draft”.
“Many conveners talked about the active participation of youth and women in the co-ops. How can co-ops reach the grassroots level and achieve a vision ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’, was a part of deliberations. Besides, discussions were held about making PACCs more vibrant and engaging them on other allied activities”, the participant added.
The meeting which lasted more than five hours, was attended by NCUI Chairman Dileep Sanghani, Vamnicom Director Hema Yadav, NFCSF MD Prakash Naiknavare, RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe, IFFCO’s Co-op relations director Santosh Shukhla, Praveen Reddy, Y Dongre and others. Union Ministry of Cooperation Additional Secretary Vijay Kumar was also present on this occasion.
On this occasion, NCUI President Dileepbhai Sanghani also submitted the recommendations known as Delhi Declaration of Women’s Cooperatives to former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu. The next meeting of the NCP panel is likely to be held on 6th January 2023 at Delhi.
