“36 lakh women dairy farmers of Gujarat invite you to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation which is world’s largest farmers’ owned dairy cooperative’, reads the catchy invite from the Amul.
The mega event scheduled for tomorrow (22 February) would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It would be presided by Union Ministers Amit Shah and Parshottam Rupala in the presence of Governor Shri Acharya Devvrat and CM Bhupendra Patel.
The venue of the event is Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad and the timing would be from 9.30 am – 12 noon. The mega event which shall be attended by over 1.25 lac milk producers of Gujarat.
The event is set to be significant, with the presence of dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah, alongside representatives from milk cooperatives and state federations across India.
Established in 1973, GCMMF emerged in the aftermath of the White Revolution, granting Gujarat’s milk producers control over marketing their products. This initiative fostered a cooperative model of success, ensuring fair prices for farmers and delivering high-quality dairy products to consumers.
Today, GCMMF commands a turnover exceeding Rs 72,000 crore, solidifying its position as the world’s largest dairy cooperative and a prominent player in India’s FMCG food sector.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations commemorate this remarkable journey. Prime Minister Modi has acknowledged the event as a testament to “the power of unity, resilience, and cooperation.”
From its modest inception with 26 village cooperatives and 247 liters of milk per day, GCMMF now represents 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages, processing an average of 270 lakh liters of milk daily. Its expansive network of 98 dairy plants and robust distribution system ensures Amul products reach millions of households nationwide.
However, the significance of the celebrations transcends mere statistics. The event aims to spotlight GCMMF’s transformative impact on rural livelihoods, women’s empowerment, and social development.
By providing farmers with veterinary care, education, and supporting rural infrastructure and educational initiatives, GCMMF has been a driving force for positive change.
