Functionaries of primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS) in districts of Tamil Nadu where Nabard has made available fund for setting up agriculture warehouses are being trained for keeping these warehouses in order.
Nearly 30 of them have taken part in the three day workshop. Sources say this will make it possible for the PACS to give farmers the warehouse receipts that may allow the farmers to pledge their stocks and avail themselves of cheaper loans.
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) through its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) constructs warehouses in villages for farmers to store their produces.
In the last three years, the NABARD has established 152 warehouses starting from the capacity of 100 metric tonnes to 2000 metric tonnes.
