Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke at length on cooperative and lauded its role in fighting off poverty in the state. Chouhan was addressing Sahakari Manthan- a two day brainstorming session in Bhopal on cooperatives, reports The Pioneer.
Chouhan said there is vast possibility for employment in the cooperative sector. Social security pension and labour of MNREGA should be paid through cooperative banks. He called for introduction of technology in all primary cooperative societies so they could play their role in the eradication of poverty and joblessness.
Cooperative has played an important role as regard to implementation of schemes for the welfare of poor such as provision of wheat, rice and salt at the rate of one rupee per kg, procurement of wheat on support price and providing loans to farmers at zero percent interest rate, CM noted.
On this occasion Chouhan honoured societies working under cooperative department, officers and employees with awards for their excellent work. Chairman, Vice Chairman and CEO of district cooperative banks of Hoshangabad, Raisen and Balaghat were awarded for excellent recovery and linking works. Similarly, Managers of Bhopal main branch, Awadhpuri, MP Nagar and Piplani were awarded for their excellent work.

Speaking on the occasion, MP cooperative minister said a six month calendar has been prepared by the cooperative department and activities will be carried out as per the calendar. Each and every farmer of the state would be made member of primary cooperative societies, the minister said.
Several top ranking functionaries of cooperative organizations were present on the occasion.
