The meeting of the drafting committee for preparing the blueprint of the new National Cooperative Policy took place at the Ministry of Cooperation, Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan on Thursday last week under the Chairmanship of former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu.
The meeting lasted for around three hours with many suggestions coming from the officials led by Gyanesh Kumar, Secretary, Union Ministry of Cooperation. The inputs were deliberated upon as the finalization of the draft of NCP is nearing.
Soon after the meeting, Prabhu wrote on his twitter wall, “Very interesting perspectives in my 3 hours long meeting with Secretary cooperation Govt of India Gyanesh Kumar, IAS, addl secretary, Joint secretaries, other senior officers, leaders of coop movement, experts on the #NewCooperativePolicy”.
Besides Prabhu and Gyanesh Kumar, the meeting was attended by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Pankaj Bansal, OSD to Minister K K Tripathy, Vamnicom Director Hema Yadav and Nabard Chairman Shaji K V., Ved Prakash Setia represented NCUI Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani in the meeting.
Talking to the Indian Cooperative, one of the participants said, “During the meeting several suggestions were made by the officials of the Ministry of Cooperation. They asked the NCP drafting committee to keep in view several initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation recently before finalizing the draft”.
“The draft is in its last stage and I hope it will be finalized within a month. Many co-ops have sent their suggestions and views on the National Cooperative Policy, which are being incorporated into the draft. In the meeting many ground-breaking ideas were discussed”, he added.
It is learned that the draft of the new National Cooperative Policy 2022, offers a roadmap for the next 25 years i.e. from 2024-2047.
The draft mentions the establishment of 50,000 new PACCS, Dairy and others between 2024-2030. During the years, the share of rural credit will be enhanced from the current share of 18 percent to 20 percent and share of UCBs in the banking system from 3.06 percent to 4 percent.
The new National Cooperative Policy draft also mentions the establishment of the National Cooperative of Bank of India, which will be similar to Nabard. It will be established with the RBI license. The objective of the bank is to deploy funds for 63,000 PACs for development, among others.
