In a major development, the Union Ministry of Cooperation has appointed Sahakar Bharati National General Secretary Uday Joshi as the Central Government nominee on the governing council of the apex body of cooperatives-National Cooperative Union of India with immediate effect.
The letter of his appointment was released on Wednesday evening which said that he will be the government nominee on the GC of NCUI until further orders.
Confirming the news, an euphoric Joshi said, “Yes, I have been appointed as the government nominee on the GC of NCUI and received the formal communication in this regard. We will work together to take the cooperative movement to newer heights”, he added.
As soon as the news broke, Sahakar Bharati workers lost no time in greeting Joshi on his appointment. The letter, which was signed by Ashique Karattil, Deputy Secretary to the Govt. of India reads, “I am directed to refer to the above subject and to convey that in terms of the proviso to sub-section (1) of Section 48 of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002 and bye-law No. 14(a) (vi) of NCUI, Dr Uday Joshi, National General Secretary, Sahakar Bharti is nominated as the Central Government nominee on the Governing Council of NCUI with immediate effect and until further orders”, it reads.
Interestingly, the news added to the enthusiasm of Sahakar Bharati leaders who were celebrating the day on 11th January 2023 as the foundation day of Sahakar Bharati across India.
Born on 17th September 1957, DrJoshi started his career as a Lecturer at JSM College, Alibaug where he worked for 35 years. He retired as HOD and Vice Principal of the College in 2016.
Presently, he is a Director of the National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies Ltd (NAFCUB) and Member of TAFCUB for States of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Dr Joshi has been representing the Co-operative Sector in Pre Budget-meetings with the Finance Ministers for the past five years.
Joshi has been the National General Secretary of Sahakar Bharati since 2015 and has been associated with the activities of the organisation in various capacities for over 25 years. He is also known as founder director of Raigad District Credit Society Federation.
Prior to Joshi, Sahakar Bharati former President Jyotindra Mehta was the government nominee on the GC of NCUI.
