Rajasthan Government has planned to open mini cooperative banks in each of its block to cover those who do not fall either in the ambit of Cooperative banks or in any cooperative societies.
These banks would be opened in Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra spread across the State. One room equipped with computers having internet connectivity in these Kendra would act as mini cooperative banks. Govt has earmarked Rs 500 crores for the computerization of one room in Seva Kendra in each block numbering 249.
Marginal section of rural population can avail agri-loan from these banks which can offer up to Rs one lakh depending on the credit worthiness of farmer.
Government also proposes to use such banks for other purposes such as NREGA payment point. Villagers can also book rail reservation or obtain birth certificates from such banks.
These banks, if operated successfully would prove to be window to the world for villagers. But government proposal sounds impressive in paper but turn out to be damp squib in practice. Let us hope, government proves it wrong this time.
