On a complaint lodged by the officials of one Jamuna cooperative society in Manteswar in Burdwan, West Bengal, police have taken two rice mill owners into custody.
The arrested men had refused to pay dues to the tune of Rs. 89 lakh to the farmers who had supplied them paddy through the Jamuna cooperative society.
The affected farmers had held a protest meeting before the rice mill and sent a letter to chief minister Mamta Bannerjee.
A source familiar with the developments claims given the state govt’s readiness to help the farmers the outstanding dues would soon be paid to the paddy farmers.
