MERCOSUR delegates at NCUI; Prez shares “Sahakar se Samriddhi” mantra

A large delegation of the group of cooperatives of MERCOSUR from South America composed of cooperative leaders and functionaries from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay visited the headquarters of the apex body of cooperatives-NCUI on Monday.

The foreign delegates received a rousing welcome from the NCUI President Dileepbhai Sanghani in the presence of International Cooperative Alliance (Asia-Pacific) President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Nafed Chairman Bijendra Singh, among others.

Soon after meeting the delegation, talking to the Indian Cooperative, Sanghani said, “A group of foreign delegates, who are on the study tour, visited the NCUI office. On this occasion, we informed them about India’s cooperative movement, which is the largest movement of the world with a positive impact on the lives of the common people”.

“The information was also shared about the activities of NCUI, especially its various initiatives for women and youths. They will also visit the cooperatives of Gujarat and will learn their working style”, said Sanghani who will travel to the Philippines on 3rd November night to take part in the 16th Regional Assembly of ICA-AP.

The NCUI President also informed about the newly created Union Ministry of Cooperation under the leadership of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. He also recounted India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Sahakar Se Samriddhi (Prosperity through Cooperatives).

In his remarks, ICA-AP President Dr Chandra Singh Yadav said, “There are around 8 lakh cooperatives in India working in different fields including agriculture, fishery, dairy, housing and others. The cooperative movement of India played an important role in ushering in the white and green revolutions in the country”.

The delegation will be joining the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture who will be on an official visit to India. In their visit, the 15 members delegation will learn about the Indian cooperative movement as well as discuss business opportunities.

During the meeting, NCUI CE Sudhir Mahajan, Deputy CE Savitri Singh, Executive Director Ved Prakash Setia, Director Ritesh Dey and other senior officials were present.

The Group of Cooperatives of the MERCOSUR (RECM) is the organ of integration of the cooperative movements in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Founded 22 years ago, RECM counts with the participation of government organs focused on cooperatives promotion and with the participation of cooperative’s representative organizations of the four countries.
