The congress govt in Karnataka contemplates soon helping farmers with easy crop loans distributed through cooperatives in the state. The move say sources hails from calculations to keep farmers happy ahead of the 2014 national election.
The state cooperation minister Mr Haridevaprasad said as much when he talked about the govt setting a target of giving loans of Rs. 7000 crore to farmers this fiscal. According to the minister, Nabard would chip in Rs 3,500 crore to the govt plan.
Haridevaprasad said all 4 thousand cooperative institutions in the state would go the polls latest by September end and the elections would be conducted by the newly established state cooperative election commission.
As for the crisis-ridden Amanath cooperative bank, the cooperation minister said the govt is awaiting the outcome of the enquiry into the bank’s irregularities.
