Karnataka State Assembly has passed the Karnataka Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2016, to amend the Karnataka Cooperative Societies Act, 1959, reports Hindu.
The amendment would help raise the maximum number of members on the board of cooperative societies to ensure separate membership for people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The Act provides for moving a motion of no-confidence against office-bearers in cooperative societies, ensuring more clarity about the powers of the State government in respect of revision petitions, and easing problems in bringing the provisions of the Act into force.
