JPC met in Annexe; Co-operators to make presentation today

The apex body of Urban Cooperative Banks-Nafcub leaders have come to Delhi to submit the PPT presentation on the Multi State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022 before the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which met on Thursday at the committee room of Parliament House Annexe Extension, New Delhi.

Besides Nafcub, delegates from NCUI, NAFED, KRIBHCO and IFFCO will give presentations before the members of JPC today on Friday. While Nafcub will make its case in the first half, NCUI and others have been allotted time for their representation in the second half of the day.

Several issues, including the registration process, creation of rehabilitation fund for helping sick co-operatives, Cooperative ombudsman, education fund and others will be a part of the presentation.

Talking to Indian Cooperative, one of the co-operators who will be part of the Nafcub’s delegation said, “We have prepared the JPC presentation on Amendments to the MSCS Act 2022. We will give it before the entire JPC which consists of members from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha”.

“In our presentation, we will ask the committee to make the co-op registration process easy. The registration of the co-op should be completed within three months,” he added.

Talking of other issues, he said the government has planned to create a rehabilitation fund for revival of sick multi state co-ops by taking some percent from the profit of successful co-ops. If the government wants to help the sick co-ops, why don’t they contribute it from their own funds, he asked.

“Besides, there is no need for a separate co-operative ombudsman”, he said while sharing the highlights of the presentation.

It is learnt that Nafcub President Jyotindra Mehta, Sahakar Bharati National General Secretary Uday Joshi, Kalyan Janata Sahakari Bank CEO Atul Khirwadkar and Nafcub Director O P Sharma have arrived in Delhi to make their case before parliamentarians.

Readers would recall that in the first meeting held earlier this month, the representatives of the Ministry of Cooperation and Ministry of Law and Justice (both Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department) briefed the committee on the bill.

Tweeting about the meeting JPC Chairman C P Joshi wrote “Presided over the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted on multi-state cooperative societies in New Delhi. In the said meeting, the members of the committee discussed the Bill related to Multi Level State Cooperative Societies.”
