In the honour of the 91st birth anniversary of late Padmasri Dr Jaya Arunachalam, a virtual event is being held coinciding with the 61st session of the United Nations Commission for the Social Development, informs Nandini Azad, the President of the co-op bodies—WWF and ICNW.
Annual Awards in the name of Jaya Arunachalam will be announced for the best women entrepreneurs in South India, says Nandini adding Madam Daniela Bas, UN focal point on cooperatives, will deliver the inaugural address from New York.
The global event with its nerve centre in Chennai will be held for 75 minutes tomorrow on 09th February 2023 from 8.15p.m. to 9.30pm IST. The title of the event is “The role of Young Women in Cooperatives in combating inequalities, enhancing productivity towards 2030 Global Agenda: Working Women’s Forum (India) – Indian Cooperative Network for Women”
This is a historic one off event for the Status young girls/women in Cooperatives globally. The United Nations’ 61th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD61) event will take place from 6th to 15th February 2023 at the U.N HQ in New York. The WWF-ICNW virtual side event on 9th Feb will be held from Chennai H.Q, yielding Chennai & India honors.
A proud moment for WWF that in 27 years in its UN – consultative status (UNECOSOC) it is the only Cooperative Network globally to win this recognition in the Cooperative sector. This is the iconic Women’s Mass Cooperative globally, read a release sent by WWF.
Madam Daniela Bas, UN focal point on cooperatives, Director, Division for Inclusive Social Development, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations will deliver the inaugural address from New York. Dr. Nandini Azad, President WWF-ICNW will give the opening remarks on the 6,00,000 worker women’s movement in 4 Southern States (Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana) with 267 trades in 6000 slums/villages of South India. The ICNW is its cooperative banking infrastructure arm and has 14 branches in 4 Southern States.
Several international co-op network leaders such as Mr Arnold Puech d’ Alissac, President, World Farmers Organization (WFO), Rome, Mr. Andreas Kappes, Secretary General – International Raiffeisen Union (IRU) (oldest global cooperative union in the world), Ms Lana Zaman, Sustainable Development Officer at UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UN,HQ, N.Y will participate.
Mr. Hirofumi Kobayashi, Executive Director, Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia (IDACA) Japan, Ms Faith Wayua, We Effect network representative, Africa and other Global Cooperative Unions, Global farmers/Asian Consumer networks will take part along with mass cooperative events of WWF/ICNW (both in English/Tamil).
Poor women leaders from Southern states will testify through case studies, successful entrepreneurs, inspiring life stories from the movement of young and old women.
