A well-known face and an internationally-accomplished expert on the subject of housing co-operatives Dr M L Khurana is no more. The prayer meeting for the peace of the departed soul has been scheduled in the afternoon on Tuesday at Rajouri Garden in Delhi.
Calling his demise as an irreparable loss to the co-operative movement, NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav said “His commitment for the movement was worth emulating.”
Dr M L Khurana served as the Managing Director of National Cooperative Housing Federation of India (NCHF) for nearly four decades and had done many original works towards the development of cooperative movement.
Khurana was also perhaps the first person in India to get the prestigious D.Lit Degree in cooperatives. He was awarded D.Lit. Degree (National Development through Slum Cooperatives) by the Himachal Pradesh University.
He is also credited with seminal work on slum-dwellers. In his discussion with this correspondent he would often talk about improving their lot. Nearly 100 million slum dwellers spread over to 1743 cities and towns in India are denied of adequate access to affordable shelter, basic services and appropriate hygienic environment, Khurana would not tire mentioning these facts.
Adequately catering to their socio-economic development needs should engage our immediate attention in the larger interest of national development and integration, he would stress.
Indian Cooperative prays for the peace of the departed soul.
