The prestigious Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi sets the stage for the Pulses 2024 convention, organized jointly by the Global Pulses Confederation (GPC) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).
Dignitaries gracing the event include prominent Indian political figures such as Mr. Piyush Goel, the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Commerce and Industry; Shri Arjun Munda, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; and Shri Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Vijay Iyengar, President of GPC, reminisced on India’s rich history of pulses cultivation dating back to 1 AD. Highlighting GPC’s participation in COP28, he emphasized the pivotal role of pulses in fostering healthier diets and promoting environmental sustainability.
Minister Piyush Goel hailed the conference as a landmark event, stressing the significance of pulses in the Indian diet and announcing the launch of Bharat Pulse, aimed at providing affordable pulses to Indian citizens. Minister Arjun Munda underscored Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives to uplift Indian farmers and emphasized the conference’s role in fostering global networking within the pulses sector.
Mr. Kassahun Gofe Balami, representing the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia, expressed optimism regarding the convention’s impact on the global pulses industry.
Dr. Bijender Singh, Chairman of NAFED, and Shri Ritesh Chauhan, Managing Director of NAFED, shared insights into NAFED’s role in ensuring food security.
