Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd (ULCCS) is making its own modest efforts to check the devastating fury of Kerala floods which have more than half the 14 districts in the state submerged in water. The death toll on Saturday reached 34, according to official sources.
Coordinating with the district administration, the Team ULCC is supporting it in rescue operations in landslide areas, says its official Mr Kishor.
“Today is a hectic day for us. We have finally reinstated the flow of the river, saved a lot of houses and their properties”, wrote Kishor in a mail to Indian Cooperative. Kishor has been updating on the situation of flood on daily basis.
Giving ULCC the target for Sunday Kishore wrote “Tomorrow we will restore the road. Attended ghat road connecting Kozhikode and Wynad near Chippilithode. There are big cracks formed parallel to the road on the carriage way disrupting normal traffic,” he said.
Further Kishore said “The adjoining building is a threat to people. We are trying to prevent sliding of that area.
It bears recall that the worst ever flood has forced more than 31,000 people to take shelter in rescue camps. The worst thing is that the rains are forecast to continue till August 15. It is being said that Kerala had seen such fury of flood in the year 1924.
Union Minster Rajnath Singh is slated to visit the submerged areas on Sunday that is today even as Aluva Mahadeva Temple is submerged in water following a flash flood. Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the seas.
Kerala state authorities opened the gates of 25 water reservoirs to prevent potentially disastrous breaches. Kerala has about 44 rivers.
ULCC is once again proving the difference that lies between a cooperative and a corporate. Being part of society the pride of labour cooperatives is doing its best to help the people – something you can barely expect from corporate entities.
