Tamil Nadu Cooperatives Minister, Sellur K Raju said that he would take steps to start Farmers’ Food Stalls through cooperatives after getting the approval of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Minister inaugurated the ‘Farmers’ Food Stalls,’ a novel concept of the Madurai District Administration to help the farmers add value to their produce and sell them at a better price.
Raju said Madurai food items were famous throughout the State and added similar Farmers’ Food Stalls should be opened in different parts of the city.
Madurai District Collector, U Sagayam, said farmers could get better returns from farming if they added value to the produce. Incidents such as farmers in Usilampatti area in the district migrating to other places after the harvest season, could be prevented if they set up Farmers’ Food Stalls and do business, he said.
