Maharashtra State co-operation minister Chandrakant Patil has said that fake cooperative societies which are only on paper, are being used by NCP and Congress to control the levers of cooperative powers in the state. There are as many as one lakh such co-operatives in the state, reports Times of India.
These societies are created at every village. Hence, voting in elections of such societies is controlled by their founders, who influence district-level polls.
Besides, the fake societies are also used for diversion of funds and loans issued by the banks.
The minister said these institutes are formed only for co-operation election purpose, wherein “fake voters” cast their votes in favour of some panel. There are as many as 2.4 lakh co-operative establishments across the state.
