Cooperators rejoice at success of IFFCO, Amul & others; NCUI plans celebrations

A massive show of Indian cooperatives at global level has led to widespread celebrations across the country with co-operators taking to formal and social media expressing their happiness.

Talking to Indian Cooperative NCUI President Dileep Sanghani said “they have made us proud and we must honour them”. Sanghani has asked the NCUI Chief Executive to plan for Covid conform felicitations for the winners.

“NCUI would also issue a letter of appreciation to all the four co-operatives who have grabbed top ranks at the global ranking in a research survey done at the behest of the global apex body of co-ops, ICA”, added Sanghani.

In a signed letter Sahakar Bharati founding member Satish Marathe wrote “India is proud of IFFCO. Sahakar Bharati congratulates IFFCO on achieving this rare feat despite all odds! May IFFCO lead resurgence of the Co-op movement to make India Atmanirbhar – Satish Marathe”.

It bears recall that four Indian co-operatives including IFFCO, Kribhco, Amul and ULCCS have dwarfed others in global ranking, announced by ICA on Wednesday evening.

The Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has once again emerged Number One among top 300 cooperatives in its category in the world, making not only the cooperative sector but also India proud.

Besides IFFCO, the World Cooperative Monitor report 2020 published by ICA has named GCMMF popularly known by the brand name Amul in the second rank among top 300 cooperatives in the world. The ranking is based on the ratio of turnover over gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

In the list of the World Cooperative Monitor report, Kerala based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) has ranked at Second position in the list of sector rankings. Usually ICA’s permanent membership is awarded to national apex bodies of co-operatives but ULCCS has been selected based on the performance of the society during the last 94 years. It was the first Primary Co-op Society that became the ICA member.

Interestingly, the second largest fertilizer cooperative of India-Kribhco has also been ranked at Sixth position in the list of sector rankings. This ranking is based on the ratio of turnover over gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

Soon after the announcement of results, while NAFCUB President Jyotindra Mehta screamed with joy “Proudly Cooperative”, others took to social media expressing their appreciation.
